District Assessment Plan

In 2013-2014, the Plymouth Public Schools hired Educational Consultant and former Associate Commissioner at the CT State Department of Education Barbara Beaudin to conduct an assessment audit.  The purpose of the audit was to examine the strengths and weakness of our assessment systems so that we can improve them and ensure their alignment to our vision and 2013-2014 district-adopted goals.  As part of the audit, Dr. Beaudin met with teachers and instructional coaches so that she could gather accurate up-to-date data.

Based on findings from the audit, a district-wide assessment plan was created (see link to the right).  This plan will be reviewed and adapted on an annual basis to best need the needs of the students.

One recommendation of the report is to "Use assessment results to conduct on-going reviews of the established and newly implemented instructional programs to fine tune their effectiveness and improve Tier 1 instruction for all students including economically disadvantaged and students with disabilities."  Therefore, one main focus of the district is to effectively use teacher collaboration time to improve teachers' professional practice.

Teachers meet regularly in data teams to:

1) Analyze student assessments to target instruction and differentiate by students' varying needs.

2) Align teacher expectations and determining what mastery looks like.

3) Use the Gradual Release of Responsibility Framework to increase student understanding, engagement, and independence.

4) Examine teaching practices and determining their effectiveness.

The District Data Team meets monthly to review the 7 goals adopted by the Board of Education, examine assessment data and student progress, determine district and school needs, and revise the District Improvement Plan accordingly.
